The Good Shepherd offers a variety of education opportunities for adults, including an adult forum on Sundays, reading and study groups, times for meditation, tai chi, Spanish classes and so much more. We encourage you to check them out.

Adult Forum
On Sundays, from September through May, join us for lively discussions on topics that range from border issues, ethical conundrums, health care challenges and even gardening challenges. Always informative, often fun and an opportunity to get to know others in The Good Shepherd community.
See our Education Brochure for a complete schedule.

Jesus Seminar On The Road

Each spring we bring in speakers from the Westar Institute for Friday evening and Saturday workshops.
The Social World of Early Christianity, February 24 & 25, 2012 (see events page for more info)
Please see our calendar for future events.   Visit the Westar Institute website to learn more.

Bible Studio

A weekday morning class that discusses the lectionary for the following Sunday in a creative format.  This method involves the creativity of the individual group member, the use of art, music, poetry and conntemporary readings, as well as an in-depth approach to a biblical passage. It asks three questions to which we give profound consideration. What is happening in this passage? How is this passage happening in our world today? How is this passage happening in my life? We meet in the back classroom (in the new building) on Wednesday mornings, beginning January 3, 2012 from 9-10:15 AM.

Book Groups

We have both co-ed and women’s group meeting during the year to discuss a wide variety of books. See the church calendar or newsletters for more information.

Education for Ministry

A new program at The Good Shepherd. Education for Ministry is a seminar for lay people who desire to dig deeper into the Christian faith, study the Bible, Church history and theological ideas and reflect on connecting faith with life experiences. Contact Julie Ingham for further information.

Seasonal book discussion groups

We often have church-wide book discussion groups that meet in the Advent and Lenten season. We are now reading Saving Jesus from the Church by Robin Meyers.
See the calendar for further information.

Special Presentation

First Light, Jesus and the Kingdom of God
,

narrated by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan illuminates the pre-industrial, agricultural world into which Jesus was born.  Many people believed that a Messiah would be a warrior-king who liberates his people from imperial oppression.  This DVD was filmed on location throughout Galilee and Jerusalem.  We presented the first two sessions in Adult Forum in January.  Because of the wide interest in this DVD we are going to continue to offer the DVD and discussion.  If you did not see the first two sessions there is more to learn.  The titles of upcoming sessions include,
God’s Great Cleanup, Parables as Lures, Jesus as Lord, Demonstrations in Jerusalem, Resurrection as Resistance and America as the New Rome.

We will continue the DVD-discussion series on Tuesday, January 31st at 2 PM and conclude on Tuesday March 20th, presentation is in the sanctuary.
